Sweet 16 for Felix Auger-Aliassime after Frances Tiafoe falls apart
Felix Auger-Aliassime has notched his 16th consecutive victory as he downed Frances Tiafoe who ended his stellar season with a whimper.
The Canadian has not suffered a loss for more than a month now after beating the US Open semi-finalist 6-1, 6-4. In doing so he reaches just his second ever Masters 1000 semi-final, his first coming at the 2019 Miami Open. He reached the last four of that event as a qualifier before losing to John Isner.
While Auger-Aliassime performed well from his end, Tiafoe looked off the pace for much of the match. That included in this rally where he failed to put the point away after multiple opportunities to do so.

Felix Auger-Aliassime extends his head-to-head over Tiafoe to 3-0 after wins against the American at the US Open last year and in Barcelona in April. Despite the loss, Tiafoe will end the year ranked inside the top 20 and as high as 19th depending on results for Tommy Paul and Lorenzo Musetti.
Next up Auger-Aliassime will take on either world number one Carlos Alcaraz or Danish teen talent Holger Rune. He faced both men at last week’s Swiss Indoors Basel, defeating Alcaraz in the semi-finals and Rune in the final. He is 1-0 against Rune and 3-0 against Alcaraz.
