Emma Raducanu achieves another huge career milestone despite Wimbledon woes
Emma Raducanu has broken into the top 10 of the WTA rankings for the very first time this week despite exiting in the second round of Wimbledon last month.ย
Moving up a spot from 11th, Raducanu now sits between Roland Garros finalist Coco Gauff in 11th and two-time Slam champion and former world number one Garbine Muguruza in ninth.
Now ranked 10th in the world, the 19-year-old Brit is the first woman born in 2002 to be ranked inside the top 10.
That makes her just the third woman born this century to achieve the feat.
Bianca Andreescu, born in 2000, was the first to do so back in September 2019 after her own run to that year’s US Open title, peaking at world number four soon after.
Current world number one Iga Swiatek, born in 2001, followed in May 2021 when her run to the Italian Open title saw her from 15th up to ninth in the world.
Despite this milestone from Raducanu, the time is fast approaching where the teen will drop down the rankings significantly unless she is able to at least somewhat replicate her US Open triumph in September.
Raducanu currently has 2717 ranking points to her name, 2000 of which are from her fairytale run to the US Open title last year.
The Brit’s next confirmed event is the Citi Open in Washington DC at the start of August, Raducanu announcing her participation there in the weeks ahead of Wimbledon.
She will join fellow 2021 US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez there as the Canadian begins her comeback from injury.
