One of a number of teenage rising stars on the WTA tour is on course to enter the top 50 of the rankings for the very first time.

It is no secret that there is an abundance of young talent on the WTA tour. There are six teenagers ranked within the top 100, with US Open champion Emma Raducanu the highest at 23rd.

Now, 19-year-old Maria Camila Osorio Serrano is just three spots from joining four other teens in the top 50.

The youngster began the year a lowly 186th in the WTA rankings, but has since climbed 133 spots.

Serrano claimed her first tour title this season, the WTA 250 Copa Colsanitas on home soil in Bogota, Colombia, back in April

After reaching the final of the recent Tenerife Ladies Open, the Colombian sits at a career-high 53rd in the WTA rankings.

Serrano defeated top seed and world number six Elina Svitolina in the second round of the event en route to the final.

Moreover, she has a solid 35-17 win-loss record across the season. Her best career Slam result came this year too, reaching the third round of Wimbledon before falling to eventual semi-finalist Aryna Sabalenka.

The four teenagers currently ranked inside the top 50 are Emma Raducanu (number 23), Coco Gauff (number 24), Leylah Fernandez (number 26) and Clara Tauson (number 49).

During her junior career, Serrano achieved the ranking of world number one on the ITF Junior Circuit. She won the girls’ singles at the 2019 US Open as the fourth seed, winning the final 6-1, 6-0.
