‘I’ll do whatever I have to’ – Emma Raducanu commits to Australian Open

Emma Raducanu says that regardless of whatever strict regulations the Australian Open requires to compete, she is happy to comply.

The US Open champion has not yet announced when she will next take to the court, with the deadline to request a wildcard to Indian Wells fast approaching.

Looking further ahead, Raducanu has assured fans that she is 100% in on competing at the first Slam of 2022, the Australian Open.

“Whatever needs to be done to be able to play the Australian Open, I’ll do,” Raducanu explained at ‘The Homecoming’, an LTA Event held to celebrate the UK’s US Open champions.

“To me it’s not even a thought or like a battle in my mind. I just want to be at the Australian Open, and I want to compete there, so, whatever it takes to do, I’ll go.”

Players competing at the Australian Open this year were required to undergo strict quarantine upon arrival in Melbourne. Something similar is almost certain to be required come the 2022 event.

The Australian Open would mark just a third senior Grand Slam appearance for Raducanu, following Wimbledon and her US Open triumph in 2021.

But the teen superstar says she is not overwhelmed by her recent experiences, and is simply taking in as much as she can.

“I just feel like I’m learning and absorbing all the knowledge that I’m gaining like a sponge and soaking it all in.” Raducanu continued.

“That’s what I really want to do. I’m not focused on results, I’m focused on how much I can learn because that’s what’s really going to drive me forward.”
