Rafael Nadal handed immediate chance at revenge
Rafael Nadal has a perfect opportunity to set the record straight at the Canadian Masters after a shock early defeat in Washington DC.
The five-time Rogers Cup champion is seeded second at the fifth Masters 1000 event of the season, and will be looking to make it three consecutive titles in Canada.
And Nadal can lay some fresh demons to bed in his opening match, as he faces South African Lloyd Harris, the man who ousted the Spaniard in Washington.
Their round of 16 meeting at the Citi Open is their only tour match-up to date, and Nadal will not want a repeat result.
Harris defeated Canadian qualifier Brayden Schnur in the first round of Toronto to set up the clash to come, while Nadal receives a bye to the second round as a high seed.
Excluding walkovers, the last time Nadal suffered back-to-back defeats was in October 2016, and another loss to Harris would raise serious questions about the Spaniard’s US Open credentials moving on.
