Five things to know about Jack Draper

Jack Draper makes his Wimbledon singles main draw debut this year against none other than defending champion Novak Djokovic.

The 19-year-old Brit made a surprise run at Queen’s to earn a Wimbledon wildcard and a chance to play on Centre Court.

Tennishead looks at five things you should know about the future prospect.

1) Starting early

Jack Draper began his tennis journey at the age of just 3.

He began by practising against the wall at the tennis club where his mother, Nicky, coached.

2) Tennis pedigree

Speaking of his parentage, Jack Draper has excellent history in the sport there.

His mother was once the top ranked junior in Britain, while his father Roger was CEO of the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), the governing body for tennis in Britain.

Jack’s brother, Ben, also just completed a four-year tennis scholarship at UC Berkeley.

3) Who else but Andy Murray

Draper’s greatest tennis idol is fellow Brit Andy Murray.

“What a great experience for him. To get the opportunity to play Novak on Centre Court,” Murray said of Draper’s Wimbledon debut.

“Don’t fear the moment, just go for it,” Draper’s idol continued.

4) Wimbledon Junior success

Jack Draper might not be a new face to some keen-eyed tennis fans, particularly at Wimbledon.

The teenager did exceptionally well in the junior event back in 2018, reaching the final before losing to Tseng Chun-hsin.

5) Not his first Wimbledon main draw

Technically speaking, Jack Draper has in fact played in a main draw at SW19. In 2019, he and fellow Brit Paul Jubb received a wildcard to play in the doubles draw of the tournament.

The two men lost in straight sets to second seeds and eventual champions Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah.
