Wimbledon 2021: Men’s Singles Draw Prediction


A look ahead to the possible later round matchups as the 2021 Wimbledon men’s singles unfolds at the All England Club.

How might the men’s draw shape up at Wimbledon this year, as Novak Djokovic prepares for a chance to equal Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal on 20 Grand Slams, while the Swiss maestro looks to make it nine titles at SW19.

Top half

Wimbledon 2021 Men's Singles Draw Top Half

Novak Djokovic looks set to have a pretty favourable draw on his quest for a sixth Wimbledon and 20th Grand Slam title.

The world No. 1 will first face 19-year-old wildcard Jack Draper, before likely facing 2018 finalist Kevin Anderson in the second round.

The Serb would then likely face either Wimbledon 2017 Boy’s Singles champion Alejandro Davidovich Fokina or veteran Andreas Seppi, before Gael Monfils or Cristian Garin in the fourth round.

In the last eight, Andrey Rublev or Diego Schwartzman look to be odds-on opponents, before Stefanos Tsitsipas or Roberto Bautista Agut in the semi-finals.

Third seed Stefanos Tsitsipas faces Frances Tiafoe in the first round, a tricky opponent, but one who should be quite manageable over best-of-five sets for the Greek.

The world No. 4 will likely dispatch Roberto Carballes Baena of Vasek Pospisil next, before taking on 25th seed Karen Khachanov in the third round.

Alex de Minaur or Dan Evans could present a test for Tsitsipas, before a likely quarter-final with Roberto Bautista Agut ahead of another possible meeting with Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals.

Bottom Half

 

Wimbledon 2021 Men's Singles Draw Bottom Half

Roger Federer will face Adrian Mannarino in his first round match, having twice beaten the Frenchman at Wimbledon before, both in straight sets.

After then facing Richard Gasquet or Yuichi Sugita, the Swiss would likely face in-form Brit and Queen’s 2021 finalist Cameron Norrie, before potentially Pablo Carreno Busta in the last 16.

Medvedev would be Federer’s opponent if the Russian progresses that far, before Alexander Zverev or Matteo Berrettini in the semi-finals.

Daniil Medvedev has perhaps the toughest first round opponent among the top seeds, as the world No. 2 takes on Jan-Lennard Struff in the first time.

The big-serving German defeated Medvedev recently in the first round of Halle, and will be a threat to the Russian once more.

Provided Medvedev makes it past Struff, he will face Tommy Paul or teenage star Carlos Alcaraz, before likely coming up against No. 32 seed and 2017 Wimbledon finalist Marin Cilic.

Grigor Dimitrov could lay in wait in the fourth round, before a likely quarter-final with Roger Federer, then Berrettini or Zverev for a place in the final.

Perhaps the most likely player to reach the final from the bottom half is Matteo Berrettini. The Italian enters Wimbledon off the back of his second career grass title at Queen’s, with a big-serving hard-hitting game well suited to the lawns.

Berrettini face Guido Pella first before taking on Botic Van de Zandschulp or Gregoire Barrere in the second round. An early test could come in the form of John Isner, while Aslan Karatsev or Casper Ruud could also trouble the Italian in the last 16.

Alexander Zverev would be the most likely quarter-finalist that Berrettini could face, while Federer or Medvedev could block him in the semi-finals.

From the top half, Novak Djokovic and Stefanos Tsitsipas look set to face off in the semi-finals, while in the bottom all of Alexander Zverev, Matteo Berrettini, Roger Federer and Daniil Medvedev are potential finalists too.
