Iga Swiatek and Wim Fissette’s partnership came to an end following the Pole’s difficult start to the 2026 season.

Swiatek confirmed the split after her early exit from the Miami Open, which saw her drop out of the top two of the WTA Tour rankings.

Francisco Roig was confirmed as Swiatek’s new coach, following his short spells with Emma Raducanu and Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.

Following the split, Wim Fissette has disclosed more information about his fateful spell with the Grand Slam champion.

Wim Fissette reflects on his role with Iga Swiatek

In an interview with The Athletic, Fissette accepted responsibility for Swiatek’s poor form over the last few months.

“There are some teams that can stay really calm under, let’s say, difficult conditions,” he said. “Others feel like something needs to change. As in every sport, it’s always first the coach that has to go.

“At the highest level in sports, this is part of the job. You have to accept that. They were almost unbeatable for a few years. The expectations are going to be super high. Every loss will hurt extra.”

Fissette hinted at the challenges he faced while working with Swiatek, including a language barrier and working alongside an existing team, which includes psychologist Daria Abramowicz.

“I was aware of the difficulties in this project,” said Fissette. “It was impossible to do better. But I was still really happy that I took the challenge, and happy with what we achieved.

“Iga is such an extraordinary player and athlete. Every word I say is new to her. Out of respect for Iga, I don’t want to go deep into that.”

Fissette has already found another role in tennis as he will coach Belgium in their Billie Jean King Cup tie against the United States later this month.

Iga Swiatek’s record with Wim Fissette as her coach

Fissette only had one full season as Swiatek’s coach and the Pole’s results during that time were impressive.

Swiatek didn’t quite match her total dominance on the WTA Tour, but she did end 2025 with a 64-17 win-loss record.

That equates to a 79% win rate, which many players on the WTA Tour would be absolutely despierate for.

However, that many wins only equated to three WTA Tour titles, all of which came in a two month window at the end of the summer.

Swiatek won Wimbledon, the Cincinnati Open, and the Korea Open between July and September, but she didn’t reach another final under Fissette.
