‘Why is there still clay?’ Nick Kyrgios hits out at ATP organisers
Nick Kyrgios has hit out at ATP tour organisers for continuing to schedule clay tournaments despite the French Open finishing in mid-June.
The Australian recently made his return to the tour at Wimbledon after deciding to skip the French Open, where he admitted that he ‘didn’t like clay at all’.
Kyrgios, who hasn’t played a clay-court Slam since 2018, said it is ‘detrimental to the sport’ that players are still competing in clay tournaments some time after the clay-court swing.
“Bro, why is there still clay,” said the outspoken Australian on Twitter.
“Bringing in absolutely zero fans, zero crowds, zero hype. It’s detrimental to the sport. My god. Excluding Gasquet, because he’s playing for just points, this is just sad man.
“No wonder we are going backwards.”

Responding to a journalist, the Australian admitted he would ‘rather turn the TV off’ than watch the clay tennis.
Sheesh, we agree on something haha. But for real, I’m a tennis fan, and I’d rather turn the tv off 🥱😅

Kyrgios, who recently withdrew from the Olympics due to an injury sustained at Wimbledon, is hoping to be fit in time to play the US Open.
