Iga Swiatek has parted ways with coach Wim Fissette after a 17-month collaboration.

The Polish star, a winner of six Grand Slam titles, hired the experienced coach in October 2024 after her split from Tomasz Wiktorowski.

The pair enjoyed success together on the Tour, with Swiatek winning her sixth major title at the 2025 Wimbledon Championships.

However, Swiatek has struggled to recapture her title-winning form at the start of 2026, most recently losing her opening match at the Miami Open.

Swiatek admitted she was enduring her ‘worst nightmare’ after the loss, and one hopes the Polish superstar can turn a corner following her split with Fissette.

Wim Fissette is far from your run-of-the-mill coach.

The Belgian coach has worked with some of the finest players on the professional circuit, helping the likes of Naomi Osaka, Kim Clijsters and Iga Swiatek capture Grand Slam titles.

As mentioned already, Fissette enjoyed success with Swiatek. However, it quickly became clear at the start of this year that their coaching partnership had run its course.

Swiatek began her year representing Poland at the United Cup; and while Poland won the title, Swiatek lost to Coco Gauff and Belinda Bencic during the event.

She then travelled to Melbourne, where she was defeated in the Australian Open quarter-finals by Elena Rybakina.

Losses to Maria Sakkari and Elina Svitolina in Qatar and Dubai followed, before her shocking defeat at the hands of Magda Linette in Florida.

It is clear that Swiatek hasn’t been happy, as evidenced by her recent comments.

After losing to Linette in Miami, Swiatek said: “I just, I don’t know, unconsciously or consciously, it’s hard for me to change things and then my tennis kind of collapses. I haven’t felt like this in, I don’t know, probably over five years.”

She later added: “I’m a bit confused, but I’ll just work hard to get it back. I know I have it in me, I just lost it for a second. This is the worst nightmare a top tennis player can have. Dropping in matches in level like this.”

Fissette is undoubtedly an excellent coach, yet Swiatek’s recent comments highlight that she needed to make a coaching change.

What did Iga Swiatek say after hiring Wim Fissette?

“I’m happy to announce that Wim Fissette is joining our team,” Swiatek posted on Instagram in October 2024.

“As you know, I’m preparing for the WTA Finals but my perspective is, as always, long-term, not short-term.

“I said many times that my career is a marathon for me, not a sprint and I’m working, operating and making decisions with this approach.
