Novak Djokovic has missed another opportunity to capture an elusive 25th Grand Slam title at Wimbledon.
Djokovic was beaten by Jannik Sinner in the Wimbledon semi-finals for a second consecutive year.
This has continued his wait for a record 25th major victory, with Djokovic’s last Grand Slam title win coming at the 2023 US Open.
For many, Wimbledon this year was seen as Djokovic’s best shot at winning another Grand Slam, and now I don’t think it will happen again for the Serbian.

Novak Djokovic has missed his last big opportunity to win a 25th Grand Slam
Not only has Djokovic previously enjoyed so much success at Wimbledon, but the grass is also the best surface for him at 39 years old as it is not as physically taxing due to the shorter points.
Despite this, physicality was still a big factor at this year’s Wimbledon for Djokovic, who outlasted Felix Auger-Aliassime in a five hour and 15-minute quarter-final marathon.
A lot of the conversation has been about Djokovic needing to be as efficient as possible in the early rounds at this stage of his career, but Wimbledon this year has proved that to be such a difficult task for him and by the time he played Sinner there was not enough left in the tank to be as competitive as he would like to be.
Who will win the Wimbledon final? Jannik Sinner or Alexander Zverev
The top two seeds collide!
Djokovic’s chances of winning a 25th major were also boosted at Wimbledon this year by Carlos Alcaraz’s absence.
Alcaraz continues to nurse a wrist injury, which has forced him to miss Roland Garros and Wimbledon, giving Djokovic a better opportunity as he only had to go through one of the top two players on the ATP Tour.
It feels unlikely that Djokovic is going to have many more majors where one of Sinner and Alcaraz is not present, only strengthening the argument that his chances of winning a 25th Grand Slam are rapidly diminishing.
Djokovic’s best shot of winning a 25th Grand Slam was probably at Roland Garros in hindsight based on how the draw panned out, but he was probably not physically ready at this stage after nursing a shoulder injury.
If he does not win the title at the US Open this year, then Djokovic may have to just accept that his hugely impressive record tally of winning 24 Grand Slams will have to be enough.
Djokovic should also take a lot of pride in the fact that he has reached the final of the Australian Open and the semi-finals of Wimbledon at 39 years old this year.
Novak Djokovic is the tennis GOAT… Prove us wrong
Novak Djokovic should play the four Grand Slams one more time
Djokovic has confirmed that he plans to return to Wimbledon next year, when he is 40 years of age.
This seems like a good idea for Djokovic, who deserves a real farewell at all four Grand Slam tournaments.

Whether that is next year is unclear, as Djokovic has previously stated his desire to compete at the LA Olympics in 2028.
Next year, Djokovic should compete at all four of the Grand Slams one last time and then if he wants to compete at the next Olympic Games, he can be more selective about where he plays to gain some match practice for one final farewell in Los Angeles.
Regardless of whether Djokovic wins another Grand Slam title, he has proven himself as one of the greatest athletes of all time, and statistically the greatest men’s tennis player in history.
