Emma Raducanu continues to have setbacks following her withdrawal from Wimbledon this year.

Raducanu had struggled in practice leading up to Wimbledon, and had been sporting a strapping on her lower leg.

After appearing in good spirits in her practice one day before her first round match, Raducanu withdrew from Wimbledon after revealing that a scan had confirmed a stress fracture.

This is highly concerning for Raducanu, who just cannot seem to catch a break at the moment.

Emma Raducanu continues to have a very interrupted 2026 season

Raducanu has played just 10 tournaments so far this year, which is four fewer than British number two Katie Boulter, who will play her 15th at Wimbledon.

Many of these tournaments were played in the first two months of the season, before Raducanu started to suffer a number of setbacks.

This started for Raducanu in Romania, where she contracted a viral illness and then suffered first-round defeats in Doha and Dubai.

Raducanu then competed at Indian Wells, before withdrawing from tournaments in Miami, Linz, Madrid and Rome.

This stress fracture is the latest setback for Raducanu, who just cannot seem to find consistent fitness and health to compete on the WTA Tour.

Raducanu’s troubles are not just exclusive to this year and have held her back ever since her US Open triumph in 2021, including three surgeries on her wrists and left ankle in 2023.

This is a real concern for Raducanu, as it brings into question whether she will ever be able to remain consistently fit to showcase her true potential.

Emma Raducanu will have a setback in the WTA rankings after Wimbledon

Despite her inactivity for periods of this season, Raducanu has still reached two finals so far this year, something she had not done once in the four years after winning the US Open.

This had enabled Raducanu to become seeded for Wimbledon, but her withdrawal now means her ranking will take a drop.

Raducanu reached the third round of Wimbledon last year and will subsequently lose 130 ranking points.

This means that Raducanu is currently forecast to drop down to world number 35 in the live rankings, and she could fall even further.

It is currently unclear as to what the recovery time is for Raducanu, but she may not be ready in time to defend the points she earned for reaching the semi-finals in Washington D.C. last year.

Raducanu could also be in a race against time to be fit for the US Open, where she is now very unlikely to be seeded and may be given a tougher draw.

Not only is this a ranking blow for Raducanu, but it is also such a disappointment for her to have to miss her home Grand Slam tournament due to injury for the second time in four years.
