Roger Federer has picked his winner between Team Europe and Team World at the 2025 Laver Cup.

Carlos Alcaraz leads Team Europe at the Laver Cup following a 2024 debut that saw him pick up eight points as his team picked up the victory.

Team Europe have the higher-ranked players overall, with five of the ATP Tour top 20, while Team World have just two players at the same ranking in Taylor Fritz and Alex De Minaur.

Despite the vast difference in rankings, Roger Federer has revealed one thing that could stand in the way of Team Europe.

Roger Federer backs Team Europe for Laver Cup despite jet lag concerns

This year’s Laver Cup takes place at the Chase Center in San Francisco and Federer believes the West Coast of America location could give Team World the advantage.

Speaking at the tournament, the 20-time Grand Slam winner revealed: “The West Coast can be tricky for the Europeans; the jet lag can take its toll.”

However, the Swiss superstar did confess that he believes Europe has the ‘stronger team’ at the event and they will likely still be led to victory by Alcaraz.

“It’s going to come down to the singles and with Carlos Alcaraz on the team, with him arrived already in San Francisco ready to go, I give Europe the edge,” said Federer.

Federer conceived the idea of the Laver Cup ahead of its inaugural event in 2017, and the Swiss star retired at the event in 2022.

Roger Federer’s Laver Cup record

Federer knows what he’s talking about when it comes to the Laver Cup as he’s got one of the best records in tournament history.

The star holds the record for most total points won undefeated in the tournament when he picked up seven points for Team Europe on their way to victory in 2017.

The star has never lost a singles match at the tournament, winning all six of his clashes between 2017 and 2022.

Federer holds a 67% win rate at the Laver Cup, losing just four matches in the doubles in his four appearances at the tournament.
