Team World captain Andre Agassi has spoken about a flaw that Carlos Alcaraz has that could be his downfall at the Laver Cup.
Alcaraz will be the first World No. 1 at the Laver Cup since Rafael Nadal’s appearance at the inaugural event in 2017.
The Spaniard competed at the event for the first time in 2024, earning Team Europe eight points, including in the deciding match against Taylor Fritz.
Agassi has suggested there’s only one thing that gives him hope of his team defeating a Carlos Alcaraz-led Team Europe in San Francisco.

Andre Agassi hopes Carlos Alcaraz will be ‘too creative’ at the Laver Cup
Agassi was full of praise for the 2025 Roland Garros and US Open champion and even compared him to the ‘big three’.
“We’ve come off a generation with Novak, Roger and Rafa, and if you take the best of what each of them do, it’s like it’s turned into one person,” said Agassi via the Laver Cup website.
“He can defend like Novak. He has soft hands and feel like Federer, and he can generate RPMs and pace like Rafa. And you’ve got the speed — offensively and defensively.”
“You’ve got the passion that keeps him fired up the whole time,” the eight-time Grand Slam champion continued. “He kind of has the whole package.”
Agassi expressed a hope that Alcaraz might overplay at the tournament, which could give his Team World a chance.
“The thing you have to hope for is that he gets too creative out there. You hope he crosses that line every now and then to give you some hope.”
Carlos Alcaraz’s exceptional Laver Cup record
Despite only appearing at one Laver Cup event, Alcaraz is already the third-highest point scorer for Team Europe.
The Spaniard’s eight points from 2024 are only behind Roger Federer and Alexander Zverev, who have played four and five times respectively.
Alcaraz defeated Fritz, Ben Shelton, and Frances Tiafoe at the 2024 event in Berlin to gain his eight points for Team Europe.
The Spaniard’s only loss last year came in doubles action, where he and Zverev lost to the all-American team of Fritz and Shelton.
