“What he’s done is something inhuman” Rafa Nadal hails effort of teammate
Rafa Nadal says that the vital role of one specific teammate is an “example for the rest of my life” after Spain secure 2019 Davis Cup trophy in Madrid thriller
Rafa Nadal says that the part Roberto Bautista Agut played in the stunning triumph for Spain last week was nothing short of inhuman after the world No.9 suffered the loss of his father only to return and support the team.
Nadal was being interviewed on court after his singles win over Denis Shapovalov giving Spain an unassailable 2-0 lead over Davis Cup final opponents Canada. Nadal said of Bautista Agut, “I have won eight games but I say it with my heart, the person who has been vital in this Davis Cup is Roberto, what he has done is something almost inhuman, I don’t know how to explain it, he is an example for the rest of my life.”

Roberto Bautista Agut was lined up to play alongside Nadal as the no.2 singles player in the Spanish team only to hear that his father had passed away during the tournament forcing him to leave his team in Madrid whilst he spent time with his family. Feliciano Lopez stepped into the singles spot and helped Spain secure the trophy on home soil.
