Daniil Medvedev continued his resurgence at the China Open by picking up yet another win over Alexander Zverev.

The Russian has a stellar record against the German and Medvedev picked up his 14th win against his rival in Beijing.

Medvedev is working under new coach Thomas Johansson on the Asian swing after parting ways with Gilles Cervara after his first-round defeat at the US Open.

The new partnership is working well at the China Open, with Medvedev sailing past Cameron Norrie, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, and Zverev without dropping a set.

The World No. 18 did something for the first time since November 2023 when he beat Zverev in Beijing.

Daniil Medvedev picked up his first top 5 hard court win since 2023

Medvedev’s hard-court record is exceptional, but he hadn’t defeated a top 5 player on the surface since 2023 until his win over Zverev.

That win came against Andrey Rublev at the 2023 ATP Tour Finals, which saw the Russian lose to Jannik Sinner in the semi-finals.

In the group stage, Medvedev defeated Rublev in straight sets and ended up finishing second in his group to Carlos Alcaraz.

The star’s impressive run also saw him claim his first top 50 win since the Halle Open when he dispatched Norrie in the round of 16.

Medvedev will be hoping his wait for another top 5 win on hard court will not be as long, as he could be playing Sinner in the final if he can find a way past Learner Tien in the semi-finals.

Daniil Medvedev outlines how he defeated Alexander Zverev

Medvedev has won eight of his last 10 matches against Zverev after toppling the German at the China Open.

The Russian star admitted that he “played as I wanted to” in Beijing and suggested what he needed to do to beat Zverev.

“Not missing much, aggressive when I need to, defensive when I need to, running great,” Medvedev revealed. “So definitely improving and looking forward to try to improve even more.”

Medvedev’s match with Tien in the semi-finals will be the pair’s first meeting since the young American knocked the Russian out of the Australian Open earlier this year.
