Rafael Nadal French Open 2021

WATCH: Rafael Nadal video statement on injury status

Rafael Nadal has given another direct message to the tennis world in a video expressing his emotions and decision making.

The unfortunate news has come that the 20-time Slam champion has been forced to cut his 2021 season short, citing continued foot problems.

It means that none of Roger Federer, Dominic Thiem or Rafael Nadal will compete at the US Open, Laver Cup, or ATP Tour Finals as all three will be sidelined for the remainder of the season.

On top of an initial Twitter announcement from the Spaniard, the ATP Tour released a video of the world number four addressing fans to camera about the update.

“I am very sorry to announce that I will not be able to keep playing during the 2021 season,” Nadal began the clip by saying.

“But as you know I have been suffering too much with my foot for the last year.

“I missed a lot of important events for me, like the US Open now, like Wimbledon, the Olympics, and many other events that are so important and emotional for me.”

The Australian Open will be hoping to see the 2009 champion in action come the 2022 season, but only time will tell when Nadal will return to the court, as he has vowed to do.
