WATCH: Angelique Kerber hits staggering volley as she makes Wimbledon statement
Former Wimbledon champion Angelique Kerber claimed a morale-boosting victory ahead of the 2021 Championships by winning the Bad Homburg title.
The German defeated Katerina Siniakova 6-3, 6-2 in the final of the WTA 250 grass court tournament to complete a triumph on home soil.
The pair exchanged service breaks twice, before fourth seed Kerber broke again to lead 5-3 and saved three break points to serve the opening set out.

The 33-year-old then broke the unseeded Czech in the first game of the second set, but Siniakova hit back to level at 2-2.
Kerber took the world No. 76’s next service game and – after saving break points at 3-2 – all but sealed the win by breaking again for 5-2.
It is Kerber’s first WTA title since winning Wimbledon in 2018 – and is by far her highlight of 2021 so far as she had a 9-10 season record before the event.
The world No. 28 made her only other quarter-final this year in her first tournament – the Grampians Trophy in Melbourne.
She will face Nina Stojanovic in the first round of Wimbledon, and could meet seven-time champion Serena Williams in the third round.
