Victoria Azarenka angry at Roland Garros

Victoria Azarenka bites back at anti-vaxxer fan, saying: ‘I am doing it for me’

Victoria Azarenka has defended herself of social media after being criticised by a fan for getting vaccinated against COVID-19.

Azarenka pulled out of Stuttgart this week to get her vaccination instead, posting pictures from the clinic on social media after it was done.

That had her targeted by an anti-vaxxer fan, though, who criticised her decision claiming it was unsafe and unnecessary.

However, Azarenka was not in any mood to back down, and essentially told the fan that if anti-vaxxers want to defend their right to not be vaccinated, then they can’t attack those who choose to take it.

“Why are people have a problem with other people choice if doesn’t align with yours?” she asked.

“I didn’t tell no one to go do it. I said what I’m doing for me, for my knowledge and my belief on what is right.”

Vaccinations have proven to be a divisive topic in tennis this year. Some top players, such as Andrey Rublev and Elina Svitolina, have been clear they are against being vaccinated.

Meanwhile, the ATP and WTA have offered to incentivise the jab with reduced quarantine and safety protocols at tournaments for those who have had it.
