Venus and Serena Williams’ return to Wimbledon marks the outstanding story of the event, seeing two absolute legends of the sport take to the hallowed turf once again.

Their reunion in the doubles will be legendary, and the entire sporting world is set to come to a standstill when the 23-time Grand Slam champion takes to the court to play singles.

There is an element of fear over how Serena Williams might perform in the singles draw, given it will mark her first foray into this format in just under four years.

However, Venus Williams remains as confident as ever.

The 46-year-old argued: “When you do all that, it’s practically gone all day. The incredible thing is that I still have exactly the same power as before. Limits only exist in our minds.”

Then, touching on her sister, who is due to play singles as well as doubles, Venus added: “I always let her make her own decisions.

“Even when she stopped playing the first time, she was still the best in the world. And she still has the potential and abilities to compete if she really wants to do it. I’m just there to support her, observe what happens and be her biggest fan.”

What happened the last time Serena and Venus Williams played doubles together?

Serena and Venus Williams formed one of the most formidable doubles teams in tennis history, and together won 22 WTA doubles titles, including 14 Grand Slam titles and three Olympic gold medals.

However, when the former seemed to have played her last competitive match in 2022, it seemed as though we had seen the end of this legendary union.

Fortunately, they will get another chance at redemption, having suffered a first-round exit at the US Open during what was previously seen as their final match as a doubles team together.

They faced the Czech duo of Lucie Hradecká and Linda Nosková, and lost 7-6 (5), 6-4.
