The grind to qualify for the ATP Finals is taking its toll on the players in the hunt, and one star has been typically blunt about his current condition.

Several players are in the hunt for the ATP Finals, with only Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz officially qualified for the event in Turin.

With just a smattering of tournaments left before the Finals, several big-name stars have entered the Almaty Open, the European Open, and the Stockholm Open.

After picking up a win at the European Open, one star described the journey to ATP Final qualification as a ‘nightmare’.

Lorenzo Musetti is brutally honest about his condition

Lorenzo Musetti defeated Yannick Hanfmann in the second round of the European Open to confirm his place in the quarter-final and keep his ATP Finals qualification alive.

The World No. 8 will play Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in the quarter-finals as he continues to hunt for vital ranking points on the indoor circuit.

After picking up his latest win, the star was asked about his hunt for qualification at his home tournament in Turin.

Musetti has already shown his emotion on tour and now he’s been brutally honest about how he’s finding the end of the 2025 season.

“It’s becoming not a dream, but a nightmare. I’m fighting every week,” said the Italian. Since Wimbledon, I’m playing straight every week. I’m pretty tired, I think you can see from my face. I’m really, really tired.”

“Mentally, I’m there. That’s my goal for the season. We’ve managed to make lots of improvements, especially on this surface. One step at a time, and now focus on tomorrow, and then we will see.”

Musetti has had a standout year in 2025, reaching career-best results at three of the four Grand Slams. The star’s semi-final appearance at Roland Garros helped him crack the top 10 for the first time.

Lorenzo Musetti vs Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard head-to-head

Musetti’s condition could be a worry heading into his quarter-final with big server Mpetshi Perricard, but the Italian has an excellent record against the Frenchman.

The World No. 8 is yet to lose to the big server, having defeated the star in all of their four meetings since last year.

The Italian has beaten Mpetshi Perricard on grass and hard court, but he’s never played the Frenchman indoors.

Mpetshi Perricard’s big serve could be a huge leveller on an indoor hard court, and Musetti will have to be on high alert against the Frenchman.
