Tim Henman suggests if Arthur Fery winning Wimbledon would be a bigger achievement than Emma Raducanu’s US Open victory

Arthur Fery has taken the world by storm at Wimbledon this year.

Fery had only won two Grand Slam main draw matches before Wimbledon this year, where he required a wildcard to play.

Since receiving this wildcard, Fery has beaten the likes of Flavio Cobolli and Grigor Dimitrov to reach the Wimbledon semi-finals.

Fery spoke about Emma Raducanu after his latest win, and Tim Henman has now revealed if he thinks a Wimbledon victory would be greater than the latter’s US Open win in 2021.

Tim Henman says Arthur Fery winning Wimbledon would be in the ‘same league’ as Emma Raducanu

Raducanu, who withdrew from Wimbledon this year due to a stress fracture in her lower leg, made history at the US Open in 2021 after becoming the first and only qualifier to win a Grand Slam.

Fery would not be the only wildcard to win a major, as Goran Ivanisevic won Wimbledon as a wildcard in 2001, and Kim Clijsters won the US Open as a wildcard in 2009.

Despite this, Henman believes that if Fery won Wimbledon it would be in the ‘same league’ as Raducanu’s US Open victory.

“It’s in the same league,” Henman said on BBC Radio’s 6-Love-6 show. “Fery has had more professional tennis experience.

“Raducanu made the fourth round of Wimbledon a couple of months before. But her coming from qualifying like that…”

Former Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli, “Arthur to win it would have to beat Zverev and then Djokovic or Sinner, that would be quite something!”

Where will Arthur Fery be ranked after Wimbledon?

Regardless of whether Fery wins Wimbledon this year, he has already made huge strides in terms of his ranking.

Fery was the world number 114 coming into Wimbledon, which was already his career-high ranking, but he is already confirmed to have made a huge jump.

Who is the most shocking Grand Slam champion ever?

You never know what might happen…

After reaching the semi-finals of his home major, Fery will climb nearly 80 places up to his current live ranking of world number 36.

This also means that Fery will go from being the British number three to the British number one, as he will overtake Cameron Norrie in that position.

Fery will be able to make his top 30 debut if he reaches the Wimbledon final, but to do so he will need to beat second seed and Roland Garros champion Alexander Zverev.
