Arthur Fery shares his memories of Emma Raducanu as he enjoys dream run at Wimbledon

Arthur Fery is doing his best to emulate fellow Briton Emma Raducanu after storming into this year’s Wimbledon semifinals.

Currently ranked 114th in the world, Fery can’t believe his run at Wimbledon, which will now continue against Alexander Zverev after his straight-sets win over Flavio Cobolli.

Zverev entered the Grand Slam as the French Open champion, while in stark contrast Fery was the recipient of a wildcard, of which he has made sensational use.

It does, of course, bring back memories of his fellow Briton Raducanu from 2021, when the WTA star won the US Open as a qualifier.

Fery has now discussed that run, along with her Grand Slam debut at Wimbledon earlier that year, when she reached the fourth round.

Arthur Fery shares his Emma Raducanu memories after reaching Wimbledon semifinal

Sharing his memories of that London run five years ago and if he can draw inspiration from his compatriot, he said: “Yeah, my memory of it was that it was impressive how she didn’t let the occasion get to her.

“She would just keep going match after match, playing well, beating top players. That was until the title.

“It’s very tough to do when you’re not used to being on the stage, on such a big stage. She did it great when she won the US Open.

“Yeah, I’ve been trying to do that, as well. Just take it match by match, play my game, put what I do best on court, yeah, keep doing that.”

Handed a Wimbledon wildcard in 2021, Raducanu made it to the round of 16 before being forced to retire against Ajla Tomljanovic.

Meanwhile, Fery fell just short of making an appearance at the All England Club as he fell in the final round of qualifying.

Later in the year, Raducanu once again delivered on the big stage, this time remarkably winning the US Open from qualifying.

No reason why Arthur Fery can’t beat Alexander Zverev at Wimbledon

Of course, Fery will have gained a lot from that near miss, but the 23-year-old is now enjoying completely contrasting feelings on home soil this time around.

It has been a sensational journey thus far, and the ATP ace can hold his head extremely high regardless of what happens against Zverev.

But there is certainly no reason for the home favorite to fear the German, who certainly doesn’t have the best record on grass, having just reached his first Wimbledon semifinal.

Moreover, Fery is currently on the run of his life and his confidence will be sky-high, while he obviously has the backing of the SW19 crowd.

There is also a monumental motivator for the Briton, and indeed Zverev, as the winner will not only play in a Grand Slam final, but will face either Novak Djokovic or Jannik Sinner.
