Three players to look out for at the 2023 Australian Open

While there are still a number of different tennis competitions scheduled to take place before the end of the year, there will be many already looking ahead to the first major of the 2023 season.

The upcoming Australian Open competition will begin on Monday, January 16, before concluding on Sunday, January 29 when the Men’s Singles Final will take place in Melbourne at the Melbourne Park venue where the Rod Laver Arena will host the final.

Tennis may have lost a legend of the sport to retirement recently in regard to Roger Federer, while the women’s game may be a little different as Serena Williams has decided to hang up her racket but despite their departures, it could be argued that the sport’s future is bright as there are a number of talented players competing on the ATP and WTP Tours respectively.

So, which of these incredible players are worth watching out for in the upcoming 2023 Australian Open? Let’s take a look at a handful of them below…

Novak Djokovic

Naturally, one of the players that many will always be looking out for will be Novak Djokovic, with the Serbian the best player in the sport at the moment and has been for some time. Of course, there will be speculation about whether he will be able to play in Melbourne next year, as he had his visa revoked in a huge saga at the beginning of the year just days before the 2022 edition, although there have been suggestions that things are looking rather positive this time around.

Indeed, the Serb is one of the most accomplished at this tournament, with his nine single titles currently seeing him be the all-time best at this event. Many will be confident that, if he can go, he will be able to add a tenth to his collection.

The Australian Open – while it is a popular tournament for tennis fans, it is a Grand Slam that attracts viewers from all around the world for various reasons. While many will be delighted to watch it because of the incredible tennis on offer, there will be others who will be excited because it can provide them with a number of sports betting opportunities involving the Serbian superstar.

In fact, if you take a look at the best tennis odds to have been provided at this moment in time, Djokovic is the current betting favorite as he has been provided with odds of +160 where he is ahead of Daniil Medvedev (+300), and Carlos Alcaraz Garfia (+350) before the odds widen out exponentially.

However, it is worth pointing out that the two other names mentioned in that list are certainly worth looking out for, too…

Daniil Medvedev

Daniil Medvedev is naturally a player to keep an eye on for the 2023 Australian Open, as the Russian is one of the top athletes on the circuit. Indeed, if you cast your mind back to the last tournament held in Melbourne, he was one of the finalists, too. He was ultimately beaten by Rafael Nadal in a hard-fought contest, losing 2-6, 6-7, 6-4, 6-4, 7-5.

The 26-year-old can be a fiery character when on the court, but there is no denying that this can add to the overall viewing experience whenever he plays.

Carlos Alcaraz Garfia

Still only 19 years old, Carlos Alcaraz Garfia is one of the most exciting players in the world of tennis, and a player that has been tipped to achieve stardom for a period of time already. Indeed, he has already managed to live up to expectations already in his short career.

As of writing, he is the current World No. 1 in the rankings – becoming the youngest player to achieve this feat since Lleyton Hewitt did it, while he has already won a Grand Slam, having achieved success at the 2022 US Open in September when he defeated Casper Ruud in the final.

Final Thoughts

Of course, there are many other players that are certainly worth looking out for at the 2023 Australian Open next year when it begins in January, however the three mentioned are the men that are most likely to be competing for the title on Sunday, January 29 at the Rod Laver Arena.

Each individual possesses plenty of quality on the tennis court, and it would not be a shock if each of the matches they played in featured them at their very best.
