‘This is a dream come true’ – Ons Jabeur on historic top 10 debut

After advancing to her first WTA 1000 semi-final at Indian Wells, Ons Jabeur has secured her place inside the top 10 for the first time.

The Tunisian star will therefore become the first Arab player to rank in the Top 10 of either the WTA or the ATP tours when the rankings update on Monday.

Jabeur beat the in-form Anett Kontaveit 7-5, 6-3 to land her tour-leading 48th win of the calendar year to book a spot in the biggest semi-final of her career.

So far in 2021, the 27-year-old won her first title on the grass in Birmingham to become the first Arab woman to win a WTA title, made her first Wimbledon quarterfinal, and reached two other finals in Chicago and Charleston.

“This is a dream coming true. This is something that I’ve been wanting. I always wanted to get there, to be number one in the world,” said the Tunisian.

“Top 10, I know, is the beginning. I know I deserve this place for a long time since I was playing well. But I want to prove that I deserve to be here, I deserve to be one of the Top 10 players. There are a lot of things that I need to improve.
