Novak Djokovic is not the most successful men’s singles player at the US Open.
Djokovic won his last major title at the 2023 US Open, making history as the first singles player in history to win 24 Grand Slams in the Open Era.
The Serbian will be looking to make more history at New York this year, as Djokovic continues his bid for a 25th Grand Slam.
This is not the only history Djokovic can make, as he looks to match the three men who have won more US Open titles than him.

Novak Djokovic has not won the most US Open titles in the Open Era
Djokovic has won four titles at the US Open, with his first coming at the 2011 tournament when he beat Rafael Nadal in the final.
The 39-year-old’s three other titles came in 2015, 2018 and 2023, with Djokovic having suffered six final defeats at the US Open.
This means that Djokovic has won the joint second most men’s singles titles at the US Open in the Open Era, with only three players ahead of him.
Novak Djokovic is the tennis GOAT… Prove us wrong
Those three players are Roger Federer, Pete Sampras and Jimmy Connors, all of whom won five US Open titles in their respective careers.
Notably for Federer, he won all five of his titles in consecutive fashion between 2004 and 2008, but failed to win another after then.
| ATP players with the most US Open titles in the Open Era | Titles won |
| Roger Federer, Pete Sampras and Jimmy Connors | 5 |
| Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and John McEnroe | 4 |
| Ivan Lendl | 3 |
| Carlos Alcaraz, Andre Agassi, Pat Rafter & Stefan Edberg | 2 |
Where does Novak Djokovic rank for the other three Grand Slams?
The US Open is actually similar to three of the four Grand Slams for Djokovic, where he also has not won the most titles in the Open Era.
Djokovic only leads the Australian Open in terms of most men’s singles titles in the Open Era, having won the title in Melbourne 10 times.
Whereas for Roland Garros, Djokovic sits in joint third, while he also trails Federer at Wimbledon in joint second alongside Pete Sampras.
| Grand Slam | Where Novak Djokovic ranks in terms of titles in the Open Era |
| Australian Open | 1st (10 titles) |
| Roland Garros | Joint 3rd (3 titles) |
| Wimbledon | Joint 2nd (7 titles) |
Rather than matching the current US Open record, Djokovic’s biggest target is likely to be winning a 25th Grand Slam.
Last year, Djokovic reached the US Open semi-finals before losing to eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz.
