Roger Federer does not hold the record for the most US Open titles won in consecutive fashion.
Federer won 20 Grand Slam titles in his career, which is only bettered by two other men in Novak Djokovic (24) and Rafael Nadal (22).
This includes Federer winning five US Open titles, which is an Open Era record.
Although Federer holds the Open Era record for both most titles won and consecutive titles won at the US Open, there is one man who has achieved more at the New York major.
Richard Sears won more consecutive US Open titles than Roger Federer
Federer won all five of his US Open titles between 2004 and 2008, and at the time he had won the same number of titles as at Wimbledon.
The Swiss was one win away from winning his sixth consecutive US Open title in 2009, but Federer was beaten by Juan Martin del Potro in the final.
After Federer’s 40-match winning streak came to an end in the 2009 US Open final, he would never win another title in New York.
The closest Federer came to doing so after 2009 was in 2015, when he was beaten in the final by Djokovic.
This means that there is only one player in history who has won more consecutive US Open titles than Federer and that is Richard Sears.
All the way back in the 19th century, Sears won a hugely impressive seven US Open titles in a row.
Many of Sears’ US Open title defences were different to Federer, as four of his victories came in a Challenge Round, meaning that he only had to play one match as the defending champion.
Sears never actually lost at the US Open, as he retired from tennis before the 1888 tournament.

As well as no man being able to match Sears’ feat, the same can also be said for women’s singles players at the US Open.
The most consecutive titles won by any woman at the US Open is four times, having been achieved by three players in total.
Two of those players did this in the amateur era, with Molla Mallory doing so between 1915 and 1918, while Helen Jacobs matched this between 1932 and 1935.

The only woman to have won four consecutive US Open titles in the Open Era is Chris Evert, who achieved this between 1975 and 1978, before her streak came to an end in the 1979 final against Tracy Austin.
