Carlos Alcaraz is set for his debut appearance at the Laver Cup, and he could be lined up for a dream first time encounter.
Alcaraz will lead Team Europe at the Laver Cup against a Team USA captained by Andre Agassi and Pat Rafter.
This will be the first time Alcaraz has played the Ryder Cup-style tournament, and he’s even foregone the Davis Cup to play it.
A match Andy Murray called for earlier this year could finally happen at the tournament for the first time ever.

Joao Fonseca vs Carlos Alcaraz could finally happen at the Laver Cup
19-year-old Joao Fonseca has been dubbed the natural successor to the likes of Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner thanks to his incredible performances so early in his career.
The Brazilian teenager has cracked the ATP Tour top 50 in 2025, thanks to third-round appearances at Roland Garros and Wimbledon.
The teenager’s athletic, powerful play has earned him comparisons with the World No. 1, and fans and pundits are eagerly anticipating their first time clash.
Murray took to social media earlier this year to amp up excitement about a potential meeting between Alcaraz and Fonseca, writing: “Can’t wait for the first Fonseca vs Alcaraz match.”
A potential meeting between the two stars could finally be upon us as they could meet in the 2025 Laver Cup.
With four matches a day across the weekend, it’s incredibly likely Murray will finally get his wish.
Who else is playing the 2025 Laver Cup?
Alcaraz and Fonseca’s first time match might get fans’ and pundits’ tongues wagging, but there are several big name stars on show at this year’s Laver Cup.
Alexander Zverev, Holger Rune, Casper Ruud, Jakub Mensik, and Flavio Cobolli will make up Team Europe alongside Alcaraz.
Meanwhile, Team USA will be made up of Francisco Cerúndolo, Frances Tiafoe, Taylor Fritz, Alex Michelsen, Reilly Opelka, and Fonseca.
The event takes place on American soil this year, emanating from the Chase Center in San Francisco.
