The Masters 1000 titles Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer never won as Jannik Sinner makes history

Jannik Sinner has already achieved a record that Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer were unable to in their careers.

Sinner beat Casper Ruud to win the Italian Open for the first time, continuing his winning streak after claiming titles in Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo and Madrid.

This has enabled Sinner to make tennis history as the youngest player to win every Masters 1000 title at just 24 years old.

The only other player to achieve this feat is Novak Djokovic, who completed the Golden Slam twice in his career, but Nadal and Federer just fell short.

Rafael Nadal never won the Miami Open in his career

There are nine Masters 1000 titles on the ATP Tour, and Nadal won all but one of those.

While Nadal never won the Shanghai Masters in his career, he did win the Madrid Open when it was held in that equivalent spot on the calendar on hard courts before switching to clay in 2009.

The Spaniard won a total of 36 Masters 1000 titles in his career, with Nadal holding records at the clay court events of the Monte Carlo Masters, Madrid Open (formerly the Hamburg Open) and the Italian Open, where he has won a combined 26 titles.

Where does Jannik Sinner rank among the all-time greats after winning the Italian Open? 🤔

Nadal’s one Masters 1000 tournament where he was never able to win the title was at the Miami Open.

The Mallorcan reached five finals at the Miami Open in his career, but Nadal was never able to win one.

This includes the 2005 final against Federer, who came from two sets down to beat Nadal, when Masters 1000 tournament finals were held over best-of-five set matches.

Nadal’s last final at the Miami Open came in 2017, where he was beaten by Federer in the championship match once again.

Federer twice prevented Nadal from winning the Miami Open in his career, and it was the same for the Swiss as well.

In his decorated career, Federer won a combined 28 Masters 1000 titles, with his most successful event being the Cincinnati Open where he won a record seven titles.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion won every Masters 1000 title other than the Monte Carlo Masters and the Italian Open.

Federer reached a combined eight finals at those two clay court tournaments, with half of his final defeats coming against Nadal.

Where does Jannik Sinner rank after winning his 10th Masters 1000 title?

Nadal and Federer are both in the top three of Masters 1000 titles won, only behind Djokovic, who has won a record 40 tournaments at this level.

Following his recent success, Sinner has already put himself into seventh in the Masters 1000 record books with 10 titles.

Sinner has won every Masters 1000 title, with the Miami Open being the only tournament at this level where he has been the champion more than once.

The world number one is also ahead of his biggest rival Carlos Alcaraz, who has won eight Masters 1000 titles.

Alcaraz has won six of the nine Masters 1000 tournaments, with the Canadian Open, Shanghai Masters and the Paris Masters the titles that have eluded him so far.

Sinner will have a dilemma for the Canadian Open later this year, as he could now become the first man to win every Masters 1000 title in a calendar year.

However, before he makes a decision about that, Sinner will attempt to complete the Career Grand Slam at Roland Garros.
