The number of retirements from the ATP Tour keeps on growing in 2026.
A catalogue of high-profile players have already or are planning to say their farewell to tennis this year, including former world number six Gael Monfils, who will be retiring at the end of this season.
Monfils will be joined by the likes of David Goffin, Kei Nishikori and three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka, who is ending his 24-year tennis career in 2026.
Wawrinka is not the only Swiss player who will be retiring this year, with Marc-Andrea Huesler also playing the final match of his career.
Marc-Andrea Huesler retires from tennis at 30 years old
Huesler had announced that he would be retiring from professional tennis in a recent post on social media.
In his post on Instagram, Huesler wrote, “I am filled with gratitude towards everyone who made this journey possible. I’m excited for the next chapter and can’t wait to see you on court next week!”
Huesler received a wildcard for the ATP Challenger tournament in Zug, Switzerland, and he certainly took advantage of it.
Having lost four of his last five matches coming into the event, little was expected of Huesler, but he won four matches in a row to make it all the way to the final.
Huesler was unable to complete the dream week, as he was beaten in the final by Thiago Seyboth Wild 6-4, 6-3.
This was the final match of Huesler’s career, who is retiring from professional tennis at just 30 years of age.

Marc-Andrea Huesler’s Career Achievements
Although Huesler is not as high-profile as many of the other retirements from tennis this year, he did achieve success in his career.
This includes winning an ATP singles title at the Sofia Open in 2022, where Huesler beat Holger Rune in the final.
Huesler’s victory in the Bulgarian capital propelled him on to reaching a career-high ranking of world number 47 in February 2023.

The Swiss also won seven matches against top 10 players in his career, including Huesler beating now world number one Jannik Sinner.
Huesler beat Sinner, who was the world number 12 at the time, in the first round of the 2022 Paris Masters 6-2, 6-3.
He was also unbeaten against Alexander Zverev, with Huesler beating him in straight sets during Switzerland’s Davis Cup tie against Germany in 2023.
Despite his various successes, Huesler could not translate this to the Grand Slam tournaments.
In Huesler’s seven main draw appearances at major tournaments, he was unable to win a single match.
That will not change now that his career is over, as Huesler moves on to new endeavours after his commendable final run at the Zug Challenger.
