Stan Wawrinka is just months away from his professional tennis career coming to an end.
Wawrinka is retiring from tennis this year, with the three-time Grand Slam champion playing a farewell season for his 25th and final year as a professional tennis player.
The former world number three has just three months left in his career, with Wawrinka planning to retire in Basel.
As Wawrinka moves closer towards his life away from the match court, he has been asked if he could step into coaching.

Wawrinka is currently on a four-match losing streak after losing in the first round of the Swiss Open in Gstaad, where Stefanos Tsitsipas won the title.
The 41-year-old will now compete at the ATP 250 tournament in Estoril, where Wawrinka has spoken to media about his emotions of having all these farewells at tournaments this year.
“I’m happy to be back in Portugal,” said Wawrinka. “I came here a few years ago and I have amazing memories, especially winning the title here. I’m very happy and pleased to be able to play here one last time this year.”
He added, “I’ve been lucky enough to experience amazing tournaments and wonderful farewells. The most important thing for me is the love I receive from the fans and the atmosphere I feel in every match I play.”

Wawrinka was also asked about whether he would consider coaching, which many players do after ending their playing career.
However, that does not appear to be the plan for Wawrinka, who has admitted he does not want to be travelling a lot like the tour requires.
“I don’t think I’ll be coaching next year or anytime soon,” responded Wawrinka. “That’s not what I want to do. I don’t want to travel too much. I want to keep things quieter, but in the long term, we’ll see.”

Wawrinka has not won a match since the Geneva Open in May, and he will be hoping to return to winning ways on the clay of Estoril.
This is Wawrinka’s main draw debut at the Estoril Open, but he has won a title in Portugal before.
At the Portugal Open in 2013, which was held in Oeiras, Wawrinka beat David Ferrer in the final to claim his fourth of what is now 16 ATP titles.

Wawrinka has not won an ATP title since 2017, but he will be hoping to at least win a match or two in Estoril this year.
In the first round of the Estoril Open, Wawrinka will play against Roman Andres Burruchaga, who he has never faced before.
