Taylor Fritz’s best efforts were not enough to defeat Carlos Alcaraz at the ATP Finals on Tuesday.
The American, who is now 0-5 against Alcaraz on the ATP Tour [aside from his Laver Cup victory], established a strong base in the match after taking the first set 7-6.
The Spaniard endeavoured, winning the next two sets 7-5, 6-3.
Despite losing the contest, Fritz can take great confidence from the performance into future matches against the world number one.

Fans in Turin witnessed some of Fritz’s best-ever tennis, and if he can continue this form into 2026, he will be a threat to both Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz at Grand Slam events.
However, he may wish to implement a different tactical plan against Alcaraz the next time they play, as suggested by Mark Petchey.
Following his loss on Tuesday, Fritz sent a message on Instagram to his Spanish peer.
Taylor Fritz congratulates Carlos Alcaraz
It seems Taylor Fritz has remained positive despite his loss to Carlos Alcaraz on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, the 28-year-old sent a message to Alcaraz on Instagram, congratulating the Spaniard.
“Tough battle yesterday, congrats to Carlos Alcaraz for a great match,” Fritz said.
“Time to focus on the next match to make it out of the group.”
Fritz, who has a 1-1 record in his ATP Finals group, faces Alex de Minaur in his final group match.
The pair, who have a 5-5 head-to-head record, last contested a match during the 2024 Davis Cup Finals.
In the quarter-finals, Fritz defeated the ‘Demon’ 6-3, 6-4.
If Fritz were to defeat de Minaur and qualify for the semi-finals, he would face one of Jannik Sinner, Ben Shelton, Alexander Zverev or Felix Auger-Aliassime.
