Taylor Fritz secured victory for Team World at the Laver Cup on Sunday, defeating Alexander Zverev to clinch the tie 15-9.
The American had already stunned the field by defeating Carlos Alcaraz for the first time in his career on Saturday, upsetting the Spaniard 6-3, 6-2.
Fritz was called upon again on Sunday, and he delivered.
Alex de Minaur had strengthened Team World’s grip on the tie with victory against Jakub Mensik. However, Team Europe clawed their way back, with Carlos Alcaraz and Casper Ruud triumphing in doubles, and Alcaraz defeating Francisco Cerundolo in singles.
However, Fritz would put the tie beyond Team Europe’s reach, defeating Alexander Zverev 6-3, 7-6.
By doing so, the American created Laver Cup history.
Taylor Fritz makes history

After Alex de Minaur made Australian Laver Cup history on Sunday evening, Taylor Fritz endeavoured to join the ‘Demon’ in the record books.
Fritz had already beaten one top-five ATP player after defeating Carlos Alcaraz on Saturday, and he repeated the feat against Alexander Zverev on Sunday.
With victory over Zverev, Taylor Fritz has become the first player in Laver Cup history to claim multiple ATP top-5 wins at a single edition of the tournament, as per OptaAce.
Fritz has become one of the highest point scorers in Laver Cup history. The American has played at five events, winning seven of 10 matches at the tournament.
In total, Fritz has won 14 points for Team World across those seven victories.
Ironically, Fritz defeated the record points scorer to claim victory for Team World in 2025: Alexander Zverev has won the most Laver Cup points in history, amassing 21 points across six events.
Fritz defeats Zverev for the sixth time in a row
Taylor Fritz is quickly becoming Alexander Zverev’s ‘bogey’ player.
The German world number three has failed to navigate his way past Fritz during any of their last six meetings, dating back to the 2024 Wimbledon Championships.
In fact, Zverev has only won one set during the pair’s last four contests.
| Tournament | Score |
| 2024 Wimbledon Championships | 4-6, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 6-3 |
| 2024 US Open | 7-6, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 |
| 2024 Laver Cup | 6-4, 7-5 |
| 2024 ATP Finals | 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 |
| 2025 Stuttgart Open | 6-3, 7-6 |
| 2025 Laver Cup | 6-3, 7-6 |
Zverev’s hopes of winning a Grand Slam title will fade significantly if he cannot find a way to defeat Fritz in the future, as the American is sure to be a feature in the latter stages of Grand Slam tournaments for the foreseeable future.
