Stefanos Tsitsipas wins Dubai, secures first ATP 500 title

Greek star Stefanos Tsitsipas ends ATP 500 final drought with a commanding victory over Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Stefanos Tsitsipas broke his ATP 500 final curse by claiming the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships title, defeating Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-3, 6-3. This victory not only marks his first ATP 500 title but also propels him back into the Top 10 of the ATP rankings.

The win is particularly significant for Tsitsipas, as it ends a title drought dating back to April 2024. He had faced challenges in maintaining consistency over the past ten months, leading him to make significant changes, including parting ways with his father, Apostolos Tsitsipas, as his coach.

Tsitsipas has been working with coach Dimitris Chatzinikolaou since August 2024, a partnership he has committed to for the 2025 season. This collaboration appears to be helping, as evidenced by his recent success in Dubai.

In addition to the coaching change, Tsitsipas made equipment adjustments, switching to a new racket with a 98 square-inch head and 18×20 string pattern. These technical tweaks have contributed to his improved performance on the court.

In his post-match remarks, Tsitsipas expressed relief and pride, stating, “It’s a big relief that I’m able to hold that trophy after the third attempt.” He acknowledged the challenge posed by his opponent, Felix Auger-Aliassime, and reflected on managing pressure during crucial moments. Tsitsipas’ victory in Dubai not only adds a significant title to his resume but also signals a resurgence in form, setting a positive tone for the remainder of the 2025 season.

Inside the Baseline…

There’s something about Tsitsipas winning a title that feels like a reset, not just for him, but for everyone watching. He’s a player who thrives on momentum, on emotion, on the dance between confidence and chaos. When he struggles, it’s frustrating because you know the talent is there, waiting to surface. But when he wins, especially after a drought, it feels like a reminder that the peaks are just as real as the valleys. Whether this is the start of something bigger or just a moment of redemption, it’s a win that adds a new layer to his ever-evolving story.
