Stefanos Tsitsipas set for Stuttgart debut as he accepts wild card

World number four Stefanos Tsitsipas is set to make his debut at the BOSS Open in Stuttgart after accepting a wild card into the ATP 250 grass-court event, which is set to take place from the 6th-12th June.

Last year, the 23-year-old played just one match on grass, losing to America’s Frances Tiafoe in the first round of Wimbledon.

However the Greek has decided to change his schedule this year and will head to Germany to warm-up for SW19.

He is currently 34-11 on the season, having captured his second ATP Masters 1000 crown in Monte Carlo in April.

However despite having eight ATP tour-level titles to his name, Stefanos Tsitsipas has never won a tour-level grass court title.

He will be looking to change this unwanted record at Stuttgart this week, however faces stiff competition with the tournament in Germany having a stacked entry list.

World number ten Matteo Berrettini will be competing as well as Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz and Denis Shapovalov.

Tsitsipas will face American Maxime Cressy or a qualifier in his opening match and could face former world number one Andy Murray in the third round.

The Scot starts against a Australian qualifier Christopher O’Connell and could meet either seventh seed Alexander Bublik or American Denis Kudla in the second round.

In the bottom half, second seed Berrettini, who is just recovering from a hand injury, will play Portugal’s Joao Sousa or a qualifier as he plays in his first match back from injury.
