Stefanos Tsitsipas joined the tennis elite by lifting his first major trophy at the ATP Finals in 2019.

Tsitsipas was far from ATP Finals qualification in 2025, but it was a different story during his sole victory in 2019.

The Greek star entered the tournament as the sixth seed, but stunned the likes of Daniil Medvedev, Roger Federer, and Alexander Zverev.

Six years from arguably his most impressive tournament win to date, Tsitsipas has reflected on the landmark victory.

Stefanos Tsitsipas shares his thoughts on his 2019 ATP Finals victory

On the day of the 2025 ATP Finals, Tsitsipas took to social media to share his thoughts on his victory at the tournament six years on.

On X, the Greek player wrote: “Six years ago, I experienced my greatest joy as a tennis player, winning the ATP Finals on my debut.”

Tsitsipas shared that playing and defeating Dominic Thiem in the final made the shock victory even more special.

“It was especially beautiful sharing the stage with Domi, my best friend on tour. The high may have worn off, but I will do everything to ride it again.”

Tsitsipas defeated Thiem in three sets at the London event, which needed a nail-biting tie-break decider in the third.

To date, it’s the only appearance Tsitsipas has made at the tournament. He acted as the second alternate in 2024, but didn’t play a match.

Thiem, meanwhile, reached the tournament final again in 2020 but failed to win yet again, this time against Medvedev.

The unpredictability of the ATP Finals

The ATP Finals used to be dominated by Federer and Novak Djokovic, with the pair winning the tournament 11 times between 2000 and 2015.

Since 2016, however, the year-end tournament has quietly become one of the most unpredictable tournaments on the calendar.

2020 Daniil Medvedev

There have been seven different winners of the tournament since 2016, with only Zverev and Djokovic winning the trophy on multiple occasions.

Carlos Alcaraz has the opportunity to add yet another different name to the trophy when he faces Sinner in the 2025 final.
