Stefanos Tsitsipas picked up an impressive victory against Alexander Bublik at the Madrid Open.
The Greek star’s form has been ropey at best in 2026, but his 6-2 7-5 victory against Bublik was his third top 20 win of the season.
Tsitsipas will next play Daniel Merida for a chance to reach the last 16 of the Madrid Open and climb the ATP Tour rankings again.
Jim Courier previously hoped Tsitsipas would soar back up the rankings, but now he has completely slammed his current performance.

Jim Courier is extremely unhappy with Stefanos Tsitsipas’ level
Speaking on The Tennis Channel during his match with Bublik, Jim Courier unleashed a furious rant about Tsitsipas’ current level.
“For too long, the weaknesses in his game have remained. His slice backhand, inadequate. His backhand return, inadequate,” declared Courier.
Who do YOU think will win the Madrid Open? 💭
“His inability on other surfaces to recognize that he should be standing back to hit second serve returns so he can hit more forehands, that’s a failure.
“He has not recognized that the game is moving past him and that he needs to continue to improve what shouldn’t be that difficult to improve from where I’m sitting.”
Tsitsipas currently sits at world number 81 in the ATP Tour rankings following his victory against Bublik at the Madrid Open.
Stefanos Tsitsipas’ record at the Madrid Open
Tsitsipas has never lifted the Madrid Open title, but he has a very good record at the Spanish Masters event.
Before the 2026 event, the Greek star arrived at the tournament with a 63% win rate in Madrid from his seven previous appearances.

Two BIG withdrawals…
That is Tsitsipas’ second-best performing Masters event, just behind a 64% win rate he has managed at the Shanghai Masters.
Tsitsipas reached the final of the tournament in 2019, where he was beaten in straight sets by Novak Djokovic.
He also reached the semi-finals in 2022, but he was beaten in three sets by Alexander Zverev.
