Stan Wawrinka withdraws from Wimbledon due to foot injury
Three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka has withdrawn from Wimbledon with a foot injury that also forced him to miss the French Open.
The former World No 3 had an operation on his left foot earlier this year, though is still not ready to return to competitive action.
Wawrinka has competed at the All England Club on 15 occasions, with quarter-final runs in 2014 and 2015.
The 36-year-old’s last competitive outing was in Doha in March, when he lost to Lloyd Harris in his opener. The Swiss star is currently World No 24.
The Swiss star is yet to confirm the news on his social media account, though the three-time Major champion has received plenty of well-wishes, including this one from the Wimbledon instagram account.
It is yet be known whether the 36-year-old will regain his fitness in time for the US Open later this year. Wawrinka won the US Open title in 2016, beating current World No 1 Novak Djokovic in the final.
