Medina Garrigues was forced to recover from a nightmare start as Ozgen raced into a one-set lead before the Spaniard’s experience told and she booked her last-eight tie with a 2-6 6-2 6-0 win.

Eighth seed Lucie Hradecka also advanced after a similar scare, beating Julia Goerges of Germany 2-6 6-4 6-1. She will play Poland’s Marta Domachowska in the last eight.

Ana Petkovic scored a surprisingly easy 6-1 6-0 win over Rossana De Los Rios of Paraguay while in the remaining second-round match Urszula Radwanska beat qualifier Ekaterina Dzehalevich 7-5 1-6 6-4.
