Carlos Alcaraz’s absence from tennis is affecting the entire sport, from fans to tournaments, and even players.
After all, despite the draws being significantly easier with him not part of them, even stars like Jannik Sinner have admitted to missing his presence on the ATP Tour.
The Spaniard has been ruled out ever since suffering a wrist injury in Barcelona in early April. That was nearly two months ago now.
Sadly, due to the extent of the issue, it took him no time to withdraw from Roland Garros, and he swiftly followed that up by doing the same with Wimbledon as well.
As he continues his rehabilitation in the shadows, David Ferrer has kindly emerged to provide at least a small update on Carlos Alcaraz‘s recovery.
David Ferrer provides Carlos Alcaraz injury update
Speaking to AS, the Davis Cup captain of Spain, who has been in close contact with the 23-year-old, shared his insight.
Ferrer revealed: “Well, calm. Reassurance that everything is going well.
Is it time to start panicking about Carlos Alcaraz?
He's out of another Grand Slam…
“The important thing is that Carlos recovers one hundred percent and day by day. You don’t have to think much more. It is an injury that must be taken care of and the good thing is that Carlos is mentally very good and is in good hands.”
This comes not long after Rafael Nadal predicted what will happen when Alcaraz returns to tennis, whenever that may be.
Wimbledon suffers more withdrawals after Carlos Alcaraz injury
Alcaraz’s withdrawal from Wimbledon is, unsurprisingly, the biggest blow that the event could have possibly received.
However, it is far from the only setback that the Championships have been forced to deal with, as a handful of elite players have now been forced out as well.
The latest is Victoria Mboko, who picked up an injury at Queen’s which looked worrying.
Maja Chwalinska must surely now be given a Wimbledon wildcard! 🍓
She joins Hailey Baptiste and Sonay Kartal as two other WTA stars unable to compete.
Meanwhile, on the men’s side, Valentin Vacherot is another of the other biggest stars who has withdrawn.
There is still fear over the fitness of players like Jack Draper, Lorenzo Musetti and Arthur Fils as well.
