‘So unprofessional’, Garbine Muguruza fuming with Barbora Krejcikova after US Open loss
Garbine Muguruza was left furious after exiting the US Open in the fourth round at the hands of Barbora Krejcikova, who she branded ‘unprofessional’ due to her on-court antics.
After losing the opening set 6-3, the former world number one battled back impressively to lead 6-5 in the second set before the Czech took a medical timeout – much to Muguruza’s frustration.
Upon her return, Krejcikova won seven consecutive points, before eventually sealing the match 7-4 on the tiebreak to march into the quarter-final.
The reigning French Open winner was also seen to be walking slowly over to her towel at crucial moments with Muguruza waiting to serve.
When the players met at the net, the Spaniard was heard shouting ‘so unprofessional’ before the pair shared a frosty handshake.
“Listen, I don’t really want to talk about this. It’s…I’ll let you guys judge what you think about this.” Muguruza said.
“Well, I think, between players, you know a little bit how to behave in certain moments and, yeah, I wasn’t very happy at the end of the match.”
Following the contest, Krejcikova was resigned to her chair before eventually leaving the court with some assistance after feeling dizzy and unwell.
