‘She’s a tremendous player’, Kim Clijsters accepts Miami Open wildcard
Kim Clijsters will resume her comeback to the tour after becoming a mother at the Miami Open this month.
As well as Miami, Clijsters has accepted a wildcard into the Volvo Car Open in Charleston in April.
The four-time Grand Slam singles champion returned to tennis last year after retiring for the second time in 2012.
The 37-year-old Belgian will make her first appearance since last year’s US Open at the WTA 1000 tournament in Miami – which runs from March 22 to April 4. She last played the event in 2012, and won the title in 2005 and 2010.
Clijsters will then compete on the green clay of Charleston – which begins on April 5 – for the first time in her career.

“We are very excited to have Kim returning to Miami,” said Miami Open tournament director James Blake in a statement.
“She is a tremendous player and an even better person. Plus, it’s not often you get the opportunity to see someone who has been inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame compete at an event of this level.”
