Serena withdraws from Hopman Cup

The reigning US Open champion and world number two, Williams suffered the injury at the WTA Championships last month.

According to Hopman Cup officials, Williams will not recover in time to be ready for the event, which begins on January 3.

A nine-time Grand Slam champion, the 27-year-old Williams still plans to play in the Australian Open, which starts on January 19.
