Serena Williams is ‘anxious to get back on court and play,’ according to Top Seed Open chief
Serena Williams is ‘anxious to get back on court,’ says the tournament director of the Top Seed Open, after revealing it was the US legend who approached them.
Williams will headline the event in Kentucky in August as a key part of her US Open preparation.
It’s not an event that usually attracts players of Williams’ reputation, but the coronavirus crisis saw her specially ‘reach out’ to them this time around, and they couldn’t be more excited.
“We’re super excited, looking forward to Serena’s participation,” tournament director Jon Sanders told ESPN. “This is a great opportunity.”
“Serena is anxious to get back on court and play. Her people told us she is ready to gear up and get prepped for New York.
“She reached out to us about playing, and we chatted, and it ended up being a great relationship.”
The event will start on August 10, and Serena Williams will be hoping the US swing will culminate in her winning a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam crown.
