‘See you in January!’ – Daniil Medvedev set to feature at upcoming Australian Open
Daniil Medvedev has all but confirmed his participation at the Australian Open as speculation continues over the status of Novak Djokovic.
The Russian star, beaten by Djokovic for the title in February this year, tweeted a photo of himself clutching the runner-up trophy at Melbourne Park with the caption: “See you in January! @AustralianOpen”.
Medvedev recently stated that he could not confirm whether he would play next year’s edition after Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews affirmed that players who are not fully vaccinated against Covid-19 would not be permitted entry.
Adopting the same stance as Djokovic, the world number two has decided to keep his vaccination status and medical records hidden from the public eye.
Whether the Russian has now been vaccinated ahead of the Australian Open or whether players have been notified of a change to the conditions at the Australian Open remains to be seen.

After denying Djokovic a history-making Calendar Slam with his maiden Grand Slam title at Flushing Meadows, the world number one gained a small portion of revenge with a three-set victory at the Paris Masters last week.
However, it is still very uncertain whether Djokovic will compete at the upcoming edition in Melbourne even if unvaccinated players are permitted after the Serb voiced concerns with quarantine conditions.
Should the world number one be unable to compete and defend his Australian Open crown, it would surely hand the initiative to his closest rival in Medvedev.
