Looking back on the big tennis news in our exclusive ‘Second Service’…Novak Djokovic is positive about his immediate future with Hyeon Chung making his long-awaited return to tennis, plus more…
To start, Novak Djokovic insists he remains passionate about competing at the highest level with the Serbian star set to take part in the Tel Aviv Open this week.
Despite his great rival Federer calling it a day, world number seven Djokovic is still eager to compete at the very highest level. ”I still want to play tennis even though I achieved pretty much everything that you can achieve in tennis,” Djokovic said. ”I still have passion and hunger to play at a highest professional level.”
In other tennis news, Hyeon Chung finally returned to the ATP Tour after two years out with a back injury.
The South Korean had not competed professionally since French Open qualifying in September 2020. In his pre-tournament press conference, he admitted he was relieved to be making a return to the court.
”It has taken me a long time to return to the court after rehabilitation, but I just feel good as I am able to come back to the court. No matter the result will be, I will do my best”, Chung told reporters.
Furthermore, Casper Ruud has admitted to being inspired at playing a role in Roger Federer’s farewell event last week.
Ruud, who made the US Open final this month, was honoured at being alongside such company for Federer’s final event before retirement.
”I was lucky that I was able to be a part of the team. I learned a lot from the experience”, the Norwegian told reporters at the Korean Open.
”It’s inspiring to see that they have the motivation to keep going and they are eager to play and enjoy each other’s company.”
