‘Second Service’ tennis news: Andy Murray ‘doesn’t deserve send-off like Roger Federer’, as Marin Cilic shuts down retirement talk

Looking back on the big tennis news in our exclusive ‘Second Service’…Andy Murray doesn’t think he deserves a send-off like Roger Federer as Marin Cilic shut down talk about retirement, plus more…

To start, Andy Murray does not believe he ‘deserves’ the kind of send-off that Roger Federer enjoyed at the Laver Cup when he eventually retires.

Murray is nearing the end of his career himself, although he intends to keep playing for a few years yet.

“I’m really not thinking about that right now,” Murray told Eurosport.

“I certainly won’t and don’t deserve to have a send-off like that. Roger did deserve that night and it was super special having all of those guys there watching on the side of the court.”

In other tennis news, Marin Cilic says he has no plans to follow former rival Roger Federer into retiring from tennis any time soon.

Cilic is 33 years old now and has enjoyed a fine career that included a US Open title. He also lost two further Grand Slam finals – both to Federer.

However, while his best days are certainly behind him, the Croatian says he has no plans to hang up his racket yet.

“I love tennis, my wife is always laughing at me, cuz’ I also watch it on TV every day,” he said at the Tel Aviv Open.

Furthermore, Frances Tiafoe says he will not be apologising to Roger Federer for beating him in his final match, but he will accept one.

Tiafoe and partner Jack Sock overcame Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal at the Laver Cup to send the Swiss star into retirement on the back of a defeat.

“I want to see him lit, but I’m not going to apologise to him. He’s got a lot to apologise for after the last 24 years after beating everyone on the tour,” Tiafoe joked.
