Sampras, who will be setting foot in England for the first time since his final Wimbledon campaign in 2002, will meet seven-time grand slam winner McEnroe in round-robin play on December 3.
The pair have been drawn in Group A alongside Britain’s former Davis Cup captain Bates and Frenchman Cedric Pioline.
Sampras and McEnroe met on court three times during their playing days, with the former claiming victory on each occasion.
“Today, or 10 years from now, if I’m on the tennis court, I’ll still want to play well and win,” said Sampras, who with 14 titles holds the record for grand slam wins.
“I haven’t been back to London since my last Wimbledon. I hear a lot of good things about the event in London, so I’m excited and pretty pumped up about it.”
Group B will be contested by 1997 US Open runner-up Rusedski, Frenchman Guy Forget and former Wimbledon champions Stefan Edberg and Goran Ivanisevic.
The tournament runs from December 2-7.
