Jack Draper recently announced the addition of Andy Murray to his coaching staff, much to the surprise of tennis fans worldwide.

Draper has decided to part ways with coach Jamie Delgado, and work with the three-time Grand Slam champion during the grass-court swing.

Draper’s decision to hire Murray has resulted in an outpouring of excitement from tennis fans, many of whom are looking forward to witnessing Murray present in Draper’s coaching box at Wimbledon.

What a signing!

Sam Querrey and Steve Johnson, two former top 30 ATP players, have offered their first reactions to Draper hiring the two-time Olympic gold medallist.

Sam Querrey says Jack Draper hiring Andy Murray is ‘not exciting’

“It’s not exciting because we don’t know how healthy he is,” Querrey, a former Wimbledon semi-finalist, claimed while speaking on the Nothing Major Show.

Steve Johnson, the former world number 21, built upon Querrey’s initial statement, arguing that Draper’s physical health dampens the excitement surrounding his hiring of Murray.

“If Draper was five in the world and had a great year like he did last year, I would be fired up for this,” Johnson said.

“Andy is such a tennis junkie, he is so involved. If you want to pick his brain, he is the right guy to pick, because he can break it down to you any given way and the information would be phenomenal. He just is that guy.

Jack Draper’s 2026 season

“I love it. When that news came across I was like this is unreal. I can’t wait. But then I was like wait a second, Draper might not even play. That’s the bummer.

“I want to see Draper play because when he is, he is one of the best in the world and someone who could potentially go after the Sinner and the Alcaraz, especially on grass with that lefty serve in his home country.

“Just having Murray with you, in England, playing these events. It is going to be amazing. I just want him to be healthy, that’s it.”

Querrey then added: “If he’s healthy and plays, I don’t think he can challenge right now. He has not played in a year, basically.”

Johnson concluded: “Every match he plays, I am assuming it is going to go south. Or if it doesn’t go south, he plays a great match and then the next day he pulls out of the tournament.

“I just want him to be healthy because he is an electric factor in playing tennis.”

Draper is likely to make his return to the Tour in June at the Queen’s Club Championships.

The event, taking place from June 8 to 14, is set to feature both Draper and world number two Carlos Alcaraz.

Alcaraz, like Draper, has also struggled with injury this year. The Spaniard suffered a wrist injury at the start of April, and has been nursing the physical issue ever since.

Both Alcaraz and Draper will miss this year’s Roland Garros event. Alcaraz is set to surrender 2000 ranking points, while Draper will lose 200.

Jack Draper’s 2025 Wimbledon campaign

Draper began his 2025 Wimbledon campaign in impressive fashion.

The Briton was leading Sebastián Báez 6-2, 6-2, 2-1 when the Argentine was forced to retire from the match due to injury.

Draper’s campaign was cut short in the next round by 2014 US Open champion, Marin Cilic.

Cilic defeated Draper 6-4, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4; much to the disappointment of the Centre Court crowd.

“Obviously, [I feel] really upset. Probably one of the toughest losses I feel,” Draper said during his post-match press conference.

“I thought Cilic played an incredible match from start to finish. [He] didn’t let up. He deserved the win.”
