Jack Draper has hired Andy Murray as his coach for the grass-court season.
Ahead of his return to tennis on grass, Draper released the following statement.
“I am very grateful for everything Jamie Delgado has done for me over these past six months. He is a world-class coach and a great man. In the interim, I will continue to be supported by the excellent team at the LTA, with the addition of Andy Murray, who will be supporting me throughout the grass-court season,” he said.

What a signing!
Murray’s brother, Jamie Murray, offered his immediate reaction to the news while commentating for Sky Sports.

“It was news for me as well,” said Murray.
“I knew they met the other day, but I thought that was more, maybe talking about his injuries and trying to get back on the court and stay fit.
“I don’t know the situation with Jamie Delgado; it seems like he is no longer going to be a part of the team, which I’m sure is disappointing for him. He’s there for six months, and Jack [Draper] has hardly hit a ball.

“I don’t know any more than that. It seems like Andy has got the bag for the grass-court season, and we’ll see what happens.
“Jamie Delgado is a really good friend of mine, so for me, it’s a little bit all over the place.
“But ultimately, I think Jack is going to do what he thinks is best for his career, and we hope it works out.”

Murray played down expectations for Draper on his return from injury, instead highlighting the importance of building match fitness.
“First and foremost, for Jack, he needs to get fit and back on the court and competing,” he said.
“So we hope that he has a few weeks to prepare himself for the grass courts, get his body right, and can start at Queen’s, all systems go.
“It’s been 12 months basically, he started to have issues at Queen’s, Wimbledon last year. So for him, I would imagine his goal is basically to get a consistent run of tournaments, where he feels he can get out there and compete, where his body holds up, and build his fitness first, and his form will come after.
“The issue with tennis is your ranking doesn’t stay the same if you don’t play any tournaments.

“He will drop down the rankings a lot by the time the grass season rolls around, and I imagine will need wild cards through the summer. There is a lot to be done first.”
He was also asked what his younger brother will bring to Draper’s team.

“That’s a good question,” he said.
“I mean, obviously experience, experience of what it takes to prepare yourself for these events, and understanding what it takes to win these events.
“And also the pressure that goes with being the number one British player around that season and everything that entails, there is no one better qualified to understand what Jack will be going through, so I think it’s an exciting appointment.”
When will Jack Draper play his first tournament with Andy Murray as his coach?
Draper is expected to return to tennis at the Queen’s Club next month.
The Briton lost in the semi-finals a year ago, but will be coached by a five-time champion this time around.
After Queen’s, Draper will head to Wimbledon, a Grand Slam Murray won twice during his playing career.
Draper lost to Marin Cilic in the second round of Wimbledon in 2025, a result he will look to improve upon this season.
Only time will tell what the future holds for Draper and Murray, but you certainly won’t want to miss any of the action!
